If you are a fan of documentary photography, the latest exhibition at the Serena Morton Gallery in Ladbroke Grove is a must. Chronicling everyday events from the 70s New York club scene, it is an insider’s view of the debauchery, recklessness and behind the glamour realness.
Focussing on the infamous and slightly bonkers clientele who frequented New York’s night life scene. photographer Bill Bernstein was on a mission to capture the lost souls, rather than the celebrity. Questioning “..had I been suddenly transported back to a pre-war Berlin cabaret? Who were these people of the night…?”
When The Village Voice, sent him on an assignment to New York nightclub Studio54, he became intrigued with the gritty, and the results are showcased in a beautiful coffee table book “Disco: The Bill Bernstein Photographs” and accompanying exhibition.
The exhibition is showing 23rd January at the Serena Morton Gallery in London.
If you thought the disco scene was wild, prepare for it to get even wilder!
