Article : Ross Pollard Image Selection: Simon Armstrong Big, Bold, Electro, 90’s, fresh and unique. Angus Chiang was one of the first designers on the Fashion Scout schedule this season and he started many peoples weeks with a bang and a sense of fun that will be well remembered in the column inches from the week, and he did it with menswear during a predominantly womenswear orientated season having bypassed LFWM to show here. The starting looks mixed the casual with big flavours of the sweaters of my teenage decade, created in colours so bold and bright they were like a shot of Blue Aftershock in a club while the DJ was spinning your most recent electronica request, oh the memories. Then we moved onto the over-sized deliberately partially deconstructed jackets with shorts. I love a more dressed up look on a summer day and these are looks I’ll be returning to whenever we get a hot day. Angus Chiang is a young designer that really is pushing the menswear envelope, these are not garments for the shy, they are joyous celebrations of what menswear can be, but they also are truly well designed looks that taken out of the runway and transplanted into our streets and avenues that will grace those hot summer nights we all lust for, or the trips to the sun we’ll all take if it’s a wet summer.
It was impossible not to smile on several levels, what with the nostalgia for us older folks of the fashion world, the stunning powerful colours, and to come back to this point again the sheer celebration of joy and zest for life that this collection embodies. Before the show started I’d been working up an article on menswear and how it can grow, well the answer includes more of this please.
