After a heated and dramatice elextion process over the last 2 weeks; Haringey brings forward its candadates Eldridge Coverdell and Daniel Stone for the May 2018 labour elections.
Comments from Labours Tim Gallagher via the media suggest unfair deselection of himself and Raj Sahotawas was part of the success. But this seems to be 'sour grapes' due to the overwhelming majority of supporters democratically voting in the new candidates.
Tim Gallagher and Raj Sahota were not deselected to the contrary of press coverage.
As part of the selection process for the 2018 Local Elections, an election was triggered for their two seats. In the same process, the third Stroud Green Cllr (Kirsten Hearn) was endorse by a large majority at the first meeting in the reselection process, last Wednesday. Tim and Raj, as sitting CLLR, were automatically shortlisted, along with 4 other candidates. The second selection meeting on Tuesday should have been able to hear from Tim, Raj and the other four candidates, and ask them questions on key issues. Unfortunately both Tim and Raj chose to withdraw from the selection process, thus denying Stroud Green labour members the opportunity to vote for them. 2 other candidates withdraw before the meeting, leaving Eldridge Coverdell and Daniel Stone who were endorsed as labour’s 2 other candidates alongside Kirsten Hearn to fight the Council election in May.
